Support for cultural district

To the editor:

The Old Art Building at 111 Main St in Leland, was built in 1922 as a community gathering place and has served as a nonprofit community hub of creativity, inspiration and connection for over 30 years. The organization has been a good neighbor throughout, respecting the residential neighborhood through operations and policies, and remains committed doing so.

The vision for an expanded OAB campus consisting of the historic property and the newly acquired deed-restricted property at 204 Cedar St, purchased with generous community-wide support, will allow us to spread our programming across two parcels in order to better serve artists, residents and visitors; and preserve and protect the historic building from overuse. This vision has remained consistent since its inception. At 111 Main: a performing arts center, a place for lifelong learning and community gathering. At 204 Cedar: a visual arts center with dedicated classrooms and gallery to feature artists’ work. Both properties feature gardens, green space and preserve undeveloped shorelines along the Leland River for residents and visitors to enjoy.
