Glen Lake (3-1) came back down two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to capture a Homecoming victory over East Jordan (2-2), 24-22.
“East Jordan is an all-around great program, and I’m proud of the boys. They never folded. They adjusted and went with it,” Glen Lake coach Jesse Smith said.
East Jordan had a 22-8 lead as the Red Devils scored a quick touchdown after a Laker turnover that left the Glen Lake crowd stunned heading into the fourth quarter.
The Lakers forced cut it to a one score game with under nine minutes remaining and made the 2-point conversion, 22-16 East Jordan.
On the next possession, Glen Lake would force a punt, but only a few plays later the Lakers would fumble for the second time in the second half.
With under five minutes to go, East Jordan was at the Glen Lake 30-yard line but turned it over on downs, which gave the Lakers the ball with under three minutes left to play. It was only a matter of a few plays and Glen Lake was in East Jordan territory. Glen Lake senior running back Fletcher Middleton would rush for over 30 yards to give the Lakers a chance to win. On the next play senior running back Sam Dyksta would score the game tying touchdown and game-winning 2-point conversion.
Glen Lake jumped out to an 8-0 lead before East Jordan returned the favor as the half ended, 8-6.
Parker Robinson was a perfect 6/6 for 86 passing yards and a touchdown to wide receiver Liam Palmer. Middleton led on the ground with 12 carries for 103 yards and a touchdown. Dykstra also added a score of his own, along with 72 rushing yards. Brecken Nerg added 30 receiving yards on the night.
Glen Lake is sitting atop the Northern Michigan Legacy Conference and will travel to Kalkaska Friday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m.
The Red Devils hope to bounce back against Mancelona home Friday at 7 p.m.
