OWC members visit Hallstedt Homestead Cherries

The September meeting of the Omena Women’s Club (OWC) was held at Hallstedt Homestead Cherries. Hosts Phil and Sarah Hallstedt gave a fascinating presentation about being a small cherry farmer, and the many ways that they have explored additional opportunities to make it a profitable venture. Their most recent, and largest, endeavor is the creation of a cherry vinegar, Red Truck Orchards. They gave samples of the vinegar and a raspberry slushy made with the vinegar.

The production facility on the farm was recently completed and they are now bottling and marketing the vinegar. As the sales increase, they hope to be another market for local growers. After the presentation, they gave a tour of the processing facility, and OWC were welcome to walk around the orchard and gardens. Everyone learned a lot and really enjoyed the event.

Following the presentation, the OWC officers for the 2025 – 2026 season were elected. The new officers are: president Roberta Cohen, vice president Liz Sugar, secretary Kathy Spohn, treasurer Kanda McKee, and membership directory editor Kim Armbruster. Many thanks to the outgoing officers: president Doni Lystra, vice president Linda Kemper, and treasurer and member directory editor, Mary Tonneberger. Mary received a special thank form the group for her 15 years of service as treasurer. Thank you to Kathy Spohn for continuing as secretary.
