Northport Village Council trustees discussed at length a list of village-owned properties and their potential as attainable housing developments during its monthly work session meeting on Sept. 4. While no action was taken, direction was given to the village manager to continue updating proposals to present and review next month.
Among the first housing items discussed was a rubric highlighting village-owned properties compiled by the planning commission. The rubric is organized by zoning and parcel order, and also identifies property distinctions like size, existing structures, and if it’s a potential Brownfield project. Intended to provide factual data without prioritization, the rubric does not currently include detailed deed research or cultural/historical assessments, however, the council can later identify priority properties for further study.
Homestretch Executive Director Jon Stimson was present to talk about his organization’s two conceptual site plans for attainable rental housing for the village’s Seventh Street property. Designed by Mansfield Land Use Consultants, one of the proposed plans included a full build-out of the property, and the other was a scaled down option that included two sixunit buildings.
