Area rowing clubs are sprinting to the Bay Theatre in Suttons Bay for a showing of 'The Boys In The Boat' on Monday and Wednesday of next week.
Lake Leelanau Rowing Club (LLRC) and Northern Michigan Rowing (NMRC) clubs are trying to harness interest in rowing while showing ‘The Boys In The Boat’ by director George Clooney which was released on December 25.
NMRC will go Monday with a meet and greet at 6:30 followed by showing of the film at 7 p.m. where NMRC crew members, coaches and board members will be present.
LLRC will be showing the film on Wednesday for the love of the sport and as a youth rowing fundraiser along with a meet and greet.
All youth (up to age 18) are encouraged to come to the LLRC table for a free ticket and to learn about rowing as a lifetime sport.
Both showings are sponsored by separate rowing club.
New Year Resolution Races
NMRC hosted its inaugural ‘New Year Resolution Races’ at the Sleeping Bear Bay Club in Maple City on Saturday for indoor rowing races. The event had roughly 30 participants of all ages.
Most impressive junior rower: Leland Fort.
Most impressive master rower: Wendin Smith.
The hammer award winner: Margrette Ellerbee.
