To the editor:
In the lost world of my youth we were Americans first and some political label second. If your man lost in November you took it in stride with no hard feelings or public fits of temper. You became the loyal opposition, respected the principle of majority rule, and hoped for a better outcome in the future. In the meantime you upheld our American principles, traditions and institutions. But today in Leelanau County that all seems to have changed as witnessed by the shameful spectacle of public roadside gatherings 5 days every week all over the county in opposition to the duly and democratically elected national leader. (Isn’t “resisting” the result of a democratic election kind of antithetical to the concept of democracy itself, the ideal they claim to defend?) Such puerile displays only foment societal division and animosity and serve no useful purpose whatsoever, in my opinion. So let’s hope they cease these childish outbursts and resume acting like proper citizens. Elections DO have consequences. Curt Raftshol Suttons Bay
