Joshua Smith was arraigned Sept. 23 on one count of possession of controlled substance (less than 25 grams) and carrying a concealed weapon.
According to the Michigan State Police shortly before 4 p.m. Sept. 19, troopers initiated a narcotics investigation when they learned of a possible narcotics deal occurring in a local parking lot on Airport Road in Garfield Township. Troopers conducted surveillance and observed what they believed was a narcotics exchange. Troopers conducted an investigative traffic stop on the suspect vehicle and contacted a driver, a juvenile from Traverse City. Smith, a passenger in the vehicle. The roadside investigation revealed that Smith had a handgun in his pocket, which was seized by troopers. Troopers also seized suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia with suspected cocaine inside.
Smith was given a $10,000 cash or surety bond. His next court appearance is on October 7 at 2 p.m.
