To the editor:
Kasson Township is putting a millage proposal on the November 4 ballot to fund the building of a fire station in Kasson Twp. This millage will only be on the backs of Kasson property owners. When Cedar Area Fire & Rescue first approached the Kasson Twp. Board about the need for another fire station, they said they wanted it in Cleveland Twp. as this fire station was needed to cover the west ends of Cleveland and Kasson. Cleveland agreed to help pay for this new fire station, but the Cleveland Twp. board has now said “No.” Note, CAFR is comprised of four townships; Solon, Centerville, Cleveland, and Kasson. For decades Kasson has paid Cedar Fire Dept. for fire coverage. Now, only Kasson taxpayers will be paying an additional millage to build the new fire station. Currently, supporters of this millage are going door to door in Kasson Twp., but they are not giving the whole story. Fact #1. Kasson taxpayers will be paying 1.8311 mills for the first year IN ADDITION to the 2.50 mills Kasson is currently paying. FACT #2. This millage states “NOT TO EXCEED 25 YEARS”. It could take that long to pay it off. FACT #3. Roger Noonan did donate the land, but let it be known, not all Noonans are in favor of this millage. VOTE NO on Kasson Fire Station Proposal on Nov. 4.
