Grounding in autumn

The world feels especially noisy lately. The headlines don’t stop, our phones never rest, and most days, it seems like everyone is running a few steps behind — tired, anxious, arguing, overstimulated.

Our lives and our world is in a constant tiresome flux, but then something else shifts. The air off Lake Michigan turns crisp, the trees begin to burn gold and crimson, and that first pumpkin appears on a neighbor’s porch. Autumn has arrived, right on time.

Our second summer lasted a little longer this year than I personally would have liked but it feels like fall is here to stay.
