LEELANAU HISTORY

5 YEARS AGO October 15, 2020

The vacuum created by a Michigan Supreme Court decision declaring as unconstitutional most executive pandemic orders issued by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is quickly filling. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) on Friday issued an emergency order that entails many of the health safety provisions contained in Whitmer’s orders. And the state Legislature is quickly moving to pass laws dealing with other outcomes of the pandemic including difficulties in following the state Open Meetings Act. *** Cheaper flights in and out of Cherry Capital Airport may be in store if commissioners on the Leelanau and Grand Traverse county boards are successful in following through with a plan outlined in a special joint meeting this week. The two counties own the Traverse City airport which is currently governed by the Northwestern Regional

Airport Commission (NRAC), comprised of members appointed by the two county boards.
