The Northport Public School board of education (BOE) approved reelecting the same board officers for the 2024 years at its organizational and regular board meeting Monday night. Ben P. Purdy will continue serving as BOE president with his term set to expire in 2028, while Barbara Conley was reelected as board vice president, with her term expiring in 2026.
Daniel K. Duffiney was reelected as board treasurer and will serve his term until 2026. Danielle Percy will serve for her second year as secretary, along with Jacob Zimmer, who is also serving in his second year as trustee. Both Percy and Zimmer’s terms are set to expire in 2028. Trustees Ryan Blessing and Thomas M. Wetherbee terms are both set to expire this year.
In other business, the board approved: -The hiring of Nicholas Jeffrey as special education teacher -The boiler project design proposal, submitted by Nealis Engineering, Inc. to provide professional mechanical and electrical engineering design services for replacing two existing hot water heating boilers. Superintendent Neil Wetherbee said the boilers are 21 years old, and that the drawings and bidding process will start as soon as possible. The timeline of installing the boilers will be determined by supply chains, with funds to cover the costs coming from the district’s public improvement fund.
