Bicentennial barn murals nearly completed

Bicentennial barn murals nearly completed

The murals on a bicentennial barn located in Maple City are nearly completed following over 260 volunteer hours being spent on the preparation and painting this summer.

More than 12 volunteers helped homeowners Scott and Tamara Stone, along with Gary McLaren of Langsdale Sign and Services, to finish the mural art on either side of their historic barn. The barn’s exterior patriotic art was last completed in 2005 and was fading and peeling, so the Stones’ wanted to lead its restoration this summer ahead of next year’s 250th independence anniversary. Scott said 14 paint colors were purchased to complete the murals, not including the many custom blended colors made on-site.

“Everything kind of came together, we made it happen, and it was a lot of work, but it was one of those labor of love things,” Scott said. “They (volunteers) basically repainted the original art, so we pretty much used what was there as a template, but in some places, we had to redraw areas where it was completely faded or where wood was replaced… so everything was completely repainted.”
