Leland golf outperformed expectations at the MHSAA Division 4 regional tournament, but fell short of advancing to the State Finals tournament with a fourth place finish last week “The girls were disappointed they missed state by one position, but with all ten girls returning next year, they are determined to finish even stronger. Throughout the season we would have one maybe two girls shoot to their average or below, but at regionals these five all accomplished contributing to the team score,” Leland coach Grace Keeble said.
The Comets were seeded eighth going into regionals but soared well above expectation to a fourth out of 15 teams behind three golfers, Elise Vann (12th), Ariah Amin (16th), and Jaelyn DeFour (20th) placing in the top-20 in the tournament. The three golfers narrowly qualified for states by roughly five strokes.
“We pushed to do our best,” Amin said. “Some of my favorite times this season has been driving in the car with teammates ... This is a great group of girls.”
