Northport approves Seventh St. parcel division

The Northport Village Council voted to approve a resolution to divide its 315 E. Seventh Street parcel and to designate the northern 4.7-acre portion of the same parcel as a village park at its regular meeting on Oct. 16.

According to the resolution, the state originally transferred ownership of the parcel to the village in May 1941. In June of 2018, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources released “any restriction for park purposes and accompanying Right of Reversion.” Three years later in November 2021, the village split a portion of the parcel by quit claim deed to be reserved “for the right to own and operate a sanitary sewer lift station.”

The new resolution splits the parcel into two: parcel one is now considered the southern 1.2-acre portion that could allow for potential future development, and the 4.7-acre northern portion will be designated as a village park.
