Enjoying the Dunes during shutdown

“We have that beautiful lapping of the waves,” said yoga instructor Amy Hubbell, whose soothing, monotone voice could slow the paint strokes of now-deceased television artisan Bob Ross. “Now rub your palms together, and feel the energy.”

Hubbell was leading nine women sitting cross-legged on beach blankets assembled in a semicircle while in pursuit of their inner selves. Despite the best efforts of partisan politics in Washington, D.C., where exercise has been limited to pointing index or at times another finger at each other, yoga students at the Glen Haven beach seemed to be winning their personal wars to find reality.

Late on Sunday afternoon, that reality consisted of a magnificent setting punctuated by the occasional squawk of a seagull.
