The Andrus family of Lake Leelanau will celebrate their beloved pit bull Lucy’s, 16th birthday this Halloween — For Lucy, a two-time cancer survivor, it will be a day to rejoice in just how far she’s come and the fact that she’s not just been surviving, but thriving with her family.

Lucy, who was first adopted from a shelter by Paul Andrus in Colorado when she was just a year old, has been along for the ride with her family for over a decade now. She has traveled across the states, living in Colorado and in Pennsylvania before relocating to Michigan.

Sara and Paul have been together for over eight years, about the time when they both moved back to Michigan. At the time, Sara had her own dog, a beagle named Rocket, so Lucy got a brother in the process, too. Rocket is now 13-years-old, three years younger than his older sister.
