Funds collected for early childhood programing could be used to pay for childcare throughout the county as soon as next year.
The funds are generated by a 0.253-mill property tax to fund early childhood development services from 2020 through 2024. Last year, voters approved renewal of the millage at a rate of 0.253 mills for an additional five years, from 2025 through 2029.
In 2026, this levy is expected to generate $711,000 with $200,000 earmarked for the child care program.
