“Leelanau County is a very safe place for children to live.”
So said Dr. Patrick A. Hansma of the Western Michigan University/ME and Forensic Serves at a recent meeting of the Leelanau County Board of Commissioners.
Leelanau is one of 12 northern Michigan counties who contract for medical examiner services through WMU. The closest in proximity to Leelanau is Grand Traverse County. Other counties contracting with WMU for forensics include: Allegan, Barry, Berrien, Calhoun, Cass, Kalamazoo, Mason, Muskegon, St. Joseph and Van Buren counties.
