As another school year begins and Michigan’s new School Aid Budget takes effect, it’s worth looking closely at how education is funded here in Leelanau County.
Most local public schools are “out of formula,” receiving much higher per-pupil funding than the state’s baseline. One exception is Leelanau Montessori Public School Academy, which is limited to the state foundation allowance, rising only modestly this year from $9,608 to $10,050 per student.
