Lakers runners-up at states; Leland's Grinage finishes fourth
Leland sophomore Sophia Grinage races down the final stretch of the MHSAA Div. 4 State Championship race Saturday at Brooklyn Michigan International Speedway.

The Glen Lake boys cross country team narrowly walked out of MIS with a state championship, but the Lakers fell short in a runner-up finish to Holland Calvary Christian.

Glen Lake sophomore Spencer McNitt finished 11th, Christian Feeney 16th, senior Abraham Feeney 24th and Liam McCaw 28th.

Leland sophomore Sophia Grinage finished fourth overall, and Onekama sophomore Callie Sinke finished eighth overall to end the season racing around the track.

Glen Lake sophomore Carmella Julian had a 14th-place finish, and Amelia Hoyt of Bellaire finished 21st.

“I was very nervous and don’t race against that many people,” Grinage said. "We knew we had to get out there and give it our all, and we are very hardcore mentally."
