Voters douse fire station request

Voters in Kasson Township turned down a bond proposal for construction of a new fire station on M-72.

The request for an $5.8 million for construction of the hall failed 58.5 to 41.6% with 279 votes in favor and 394 against.

“Our current coverage area is too big to provide the life support services required,” said Greg Julian, Kasson supervisor and chair of the Cedar Area Fire & Rescue board. “The Kasson Board recognized that we want to respond to our citizens with resources funded by us — not another townships citizen tax dollar.”
