The Leland Township board approved a fund transfer from the Sunset Shores bond account to the general fund’s capital improvement account in the amount of $73,794 at its regular meeting on Monday.
Supervisor Clint Mitchell explained that when they bonded the Sunset Shores project earlier this year the township was reimbursed $273,794 based on the money it had spent leading up to the project.
Approximately $200,000 of that sum is now set aside to address Michigan Tax Tribunal cases which will be held in the spring. The Tribunal has jurisdiction over assessment disputes relative to both property and non-property matters. To resolve a dispute, the Tribunal conducts hearings and renders written decisions based on the evidence properly submitted by all parties. Some residents within the Sunset Shores special assessment district (SAD) that oppose the project are waiting to go before the tribunal to make their case.
