The first several hundred feet of primary power lines are being installed at The Homestead in Glen Arbor.

CEO and owner Bob Kuras says the installation was needed to prevent future power failures at the 500-acre resort on the shore of Lake Michigan just north of Glen Arbor.

“As a result of ongoing failures in the Consumers Energy system, we’ve known for a while there was a problem. We tried to address it by meeting with Consumers, but two summers ago it got worse. There were a number of failures that Consumers was unable to address in a timely manner. In one case, we ran six large generators to provide electricity to our owners and guests. While that enabled us to operate, the generators were very noisy, ran 24 hours a day, and led to many complaints,” Kuras said.
