Spray system: dangerous

To the editor:

As a lifelong Michigander and a volunteer with the National Park Service, I appreciate the Enterprise shining light on the longstanding wastewater issue between The Homestead Resort and Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. The recent article, however, left the impression that the resort’s spray system poses no danger to the public. It does.

The water that is sprayed has not received complete treatment until it is filtered by the ground. The spray that drifts into the park - as testing and video have proven - exposes visitors to partially treated sewage. That’s why warning signs are still posted and why public land is closed to the public.
