Leelanau community steps up to help others

The people of Leelanau County live here for many reasons… family, the natural beauty of the area or simply to retire.

But there’s another attribute that could be a big draw — one that may not seem obvious — which contribute to our quality of life. The sense of community and the willingness to step up and help others.

While confronting the uncertainties of federal assistance programs like SNAP, and grappling with the realities of the many furloughed federal workers living in the region, the Empire Area Community Center (EACC) is expanding its outreach.
