In a candle lit ceremony the Suttons Bay National Honor Society inducted eight students into membership on Wednesday, November 12.
These students are tasked with upholding the four pillars of the National Honor Society: Leadership, Scholarship, Character and Service. Students were invited if they held a 3.4 GPA or higher. Applicants wrote an essay, filled out an application and provided a letter of recommendation.
A faculty council reviewed and ranked applicants in the areas of leadership, character and service. These eight were chosen. President Megan U’Ren emceed the ceremony and introduced our guest speaker of the evening Cynthia Opie a graduate of Suttons Bay. She had three special points of wisdom and tasks for the students to remember and uphold: get out of your comfort zone and do something hard to expand yourself, your path in life will not be linear, it will zig zag, embrace those zig zag moments and finally, give back to your community.
