To the editor:
America (including Leelanau County) has a health system whereby “everyone has his hand in everyone else’s pocket while never having to look anyone in the eye”. (The term “health care” appears nowhere in the Constitution, by the way, and therefore there is no grant of power from the People to government to provide their medical needs) In the lost world of my childhood insurance was intended to cover catastrophic events only, surgeries or lengthy hospital stays, but not everyday minor issues. We would see Doc Ellis or Bolen and pay them out of pocket for life’s bumps and scrapes. Yet today we have a monstrosity called “ObamaCare,” which has bankrupted health care, all based on false promises, false premises, and bold-faced lies. (only 7% of Americans use the ACA, incidentally) What good, I ask you, is a policy with $2,000 premiums and a $10,000 deductible? And why force a healthy 25-year old to buy it at all? Yet this unmitigated disaster, permanently broken, remains a sacred cow of the left requiring endless massive taxpayer subsidies to perpetuate and which led to the democrats’ purely political government shutdown, endangering air travelers, wasting billions of dollars, and depriving the poor of sustenance. Do you really want affordable health care again? Then get government, middle men, and insurance companies OUT of our daily health matters. “Any government program is just a breeding ground for fraud and abuse”. SNAP is a prime example, as will be Universal Health Care, should it ever befall us.
