S-B planners to continue ISEA campus review Dec. 17

The Suttons Bay Planning Commission will continue its review on the conditional use permit of the Inland Seas Education Association (ISEA) campus expansion site plan at its next meeting set for Dec. 17 after commissioners chose not to approve it during its initial review presented last week.

The application for a conditional use permit is being reviewed as a “community oriented cultural facility,” permitted by right in the commercial business district.

ISEA Executive Director Fred Sitkins said while there was overwhelming support by the planning commission, they received mixed results from the meeting. He said they had a great turnout from the public with more than 30 people in attendance, and planning commissioners were in support of the project, but a setback issue on Dame Street, a street situated between ISEA’s campus and its existing north lot Millside building, ultimately led the commission to hold off on approval.
