To the editor:
This past week, following a report by Housing North to the Leelanau County Board of Commissioners regarding the dire need for attainable housing in the county to attract and retain the county’s essential workforce, the Enterprise used its Editorial page to recognize that need and urge efforts to address it.
In the same issue, the Enterprise used its new Opposing Views page to focus upon this critical issue. The position offered in opposition to addressing workforce housing was written by someone who states he makes his living as a contractor in the for-profit real estate world. He suggests that relying upon the “For Profit market” is the answer, rejecting the value of Community Land Trusts, less restrictive zoning and private/public cooperation. He seems to even reject the need for attainable workforce housing.
