The Bay Community Theatre will host the Interlochen Jazz Ensemble in two performances of Duke Ellington’s “Nutcracker Suite” on Saturday, December 6, at 1 and 4:30 p.m.
Chris Glassman, director of the Interlochen Jazz Department, will lead a remarkable and large ensemble of gifted musicians, outstanding ensemble of talented musicians whose instruments will fill the stage and whose exceptional sound will resonate throughout the entire Theatre creating an unforgettable Holiday experience.
Duke Ellington’s Nutcracker Suite, written together with his famed collaborator Billy Strayhorn, is a 1960 jazz interpretation of Tchaikovsky’s original, cherished ballet score, first written in 1892. The instrumental arrangement, color and punctuation of the Ellington version have made it a muchloved jazz rendering for nearly 70 years.
