Suttons Bay boys basketball got back on track Tuesday night as the Norsemen braved the conditions and traveled down to Cadillac Heritage.
The Norsemen had themselves a game, winning 71-56 in the second of back-to-back games.
Suttons Bay sophomore Zachariah Raphael led the Norsemen with 14 points, 11 rebounds; Tyler Porter 10 points, 10 rebounds; Austin Vang 10 points, 6 rebounds; Grayson Opie 8 points, 7 rebounds, 10 blocks.
In the first game of the backto- back, Buckley traveled north to Suttons Bay for a battle Monday night.
Suttons Bay had the game tied 26-26 at halftime, but a third quarter Buckley outburst was the difference as the Bears won 55-47.
“We’re just trying to take it game by game. Each game we are just trying to get a little bit better,” Suttons Bay coach Noah Phillips said. “These guys are doing great trying to take on a new system ... Congrats to Buckley. They had a couple really solid players tonight and they played well, so hats off to them.”
After going into halftime tied 26-26, Buckley went on a 17-6 run in the third to take a commanding 43-32 lead.
The Norsemen would cut the Bears lead down to seven multiple times in the fourth quarter, but couldn’t get back into striking distance.
“It’s almost easier to take things from than a win,” Phillips said. “We are able to look at film tonight and tomorrow and break some stuff down and just kind of take what we saw tonight and build upon it.”
Suttons Bay could not stop Buckley junior Landon Kulawiak who led all scorers with 28 points.
The Norsemen were led by senior Finn Mankowski 17 points; Opie 14 points; Uriah TwoCrow 12 points; Darius Lopez 6 points.
The Norsemen head to Benzie Central on Thursday at 7 p.m.
