STR wait-list grows in Cleveland

The Cleveland Township Board worked through a full agenda during their December meeting, hearing updates on the short term rental (STR) ordinance and approving a pay raise for the zoning administrator.

The meeting started with board member Todd Nowak reporting that there was a recent informal meeting with Mike Rivard of the Sleeping Bear Gateway Council about several parcels of land that the group has purchased or is pursuing for attainable housing. Board members seemed to be in favor of the idea with Township Supervisor Tim Stein saying that the area in question would be “perfect for it.”

Zoning Administrator Scott Sheehan’s report listed three STR permits issued in November with seven on the waiting list. The board adopted an updated STR resolution that doesn’t change the township’s 36- permit cap or the annual fee, but does “bring it up to date and pulls out all the unnecessary verbiage,” according to Stein.
