Benzie defeats Leland

A slow Leland girls basketball (4-3, 2-3) start allowed Benzie Central to hold off the Comets 36-29 last Thursday. “A slow start allowed Benzie to be able to convert both in transition and with their outside shooting, which had us playing from behind right from the start of the game,” Leland coach Ryan Knudsen said.

“I was proud of the way that we adjusted though and improved throughout the game, as we played Benzie even the final three quarters, but we were just not able to overcome the deficit from the first quarter.”

The Huskies jumped out to a 16-9 lead after the first quarter and Leland struggled to close the gap.

The Comets would make the game interesting but couldn’t get it under 10 points until the final moments.

Leland senior Mallory Lowe led with 16 points, four steals, and three rebounds. Comet junior Elli Miller managed nine points, eight rebounds, and freshman Lorna Wiesen had seven rebounds.
