Lighthouse not ‘neutral’ group

As Leland evaluates the zoning implications of the Leelanau Lighthouse youth ministry, it’s also important to acknowledge how this organization approaches outreach and the effect it has on our youth and community.

Lighthouse is not a neutral youth club. It’s part of a multimillion- dollar national evangelical ministry that uses a coordinated model built around “pursuing youth” and guiding them toward a single religious worldview. That may be appropriate in a church setting, but not in public schools, nor should it be woven into daily life in Leland’s downtown economic core.
