Leelanau Twp. adopts attainable housing resolution

Leelanau Township approved a resolution regarding the sale of township property, specifically the parcel at 824 N. Warren Street, for the construction of attainable housing at its regular meeting last week. According to the resolution, any offer made to purchase the property will be brought to the township board for review and approval, and the proceeds from the sale will be used for public benefit.

Barbara Conley, Leelanau Township supervisor, said at the meeting that the board had to make a decision that they will use the property for attainable housing before they can solicit bids via an RFP (request for proposal). Trustee Elizabeth Schwind clarified that if the township did not receive any offers, they could rescind the resolution.

With a survey currently being done on the septic system and what it can manage, trustee Silvia Gans questioned if those sewer capacity results would make any difference in the construction of possible attainable housing at the location.
