Spirit of community lasts longer than the holidays

My name is Catie Borden Cohen, and I’ve grown up coming to Leland each summer. My family’s history in the county spans multiple generations. I’ve always loved the people and sense of community in this town. After a recent event, that love and admiration have only grown stronger.

Last summer, on a hot afternoon in late July, I met a friend for a walk. As we strolled, my hands began to swell from the heat, and my rings felt tight. I decided to take off my wedding bands and engagement ring for safekeeping.

We stopped briefly near Stander Marine, and I tucked the rings into a small black fanny pack.
