To the editor:
I have to disagree with Mr. Raftshol’s recent letter suggesting healthcare is not a human right. In a country as great as ours with the thousands of innovations in healthcare over the past many years we prevented many of the infant and childhood deaths and extended not only life expectancy but the quality of life. We still have a long way to go to markedly reduce perinatal mortality but access to perinatal care is a good start. Vaccines have prevented millions of deaths and by reducing infectious diseases have saved others by eliminating exposure to those otherwise infected. In a country as great as ours it is an embarrassment that so many go without insurance or have crippling costs of healthcare. The ACA may not be perfect but is a good start.
