To the editor:
CONGRATULATIONS - The County Board of Commissioners for commissioning a desperately needed Organizational Culture Survey. GOOD WORK - The Enterprise for great reporting of the results of the culture survey, which was conducted and the results presented professionally. SHAME - To County officials and employees who failed to recognize their own shortcomings and attempted to place blame on others. KUDOS - To those who expressed a desire to move forward and improve the work environment and relationships among county office holders and employees.
Given the pathetically low score rating results of the culture survey I am not surprised by the negative responses by some and experience tells me those complaining are generally at the root of the problem(s). Future governance training will be critical for improvement but experience has also taught me that those who are the major problems will find it most difficult to understand their personal issues and change behavior. To them I say in the words of Thomas Paine, “Lead, follow or get out of the way.”
