Unspecified allegations of “immoral” actions taken by the Leelanau County Board of Commissioners in its last term animated discussions about the proper role of the board chairman at the county board’s organizational meeting this week. A deeply divided board Tuesday morning reelected District No. 2 Commissioner Will Bunek, a Republican, as its chair for the next two years. *** The state has withheld reissuance of all commercial fishing licenses in Michigan and restricted netting rules to the point that the industry is being forced out of business, a federal lawsuit states. The Michigan Fish Producers Association — of which Fishtown Preservation Society (FPS) is a member — is suing the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, claiming that its actions represent reprisals against commercial fishing businesses.
