As of Monday, Jan. 5, the Friend of Sleeping Bear Dunes reported warmer temps with snow too sticky to groom fro cross country skiing, and won’t be able to get back out until it gets a bit cooler.
The northern section of trail, from Crystal River trailhead to Basch Rd., were groomed twice.
Over the past week, trail crew removed over a dozen downed trees while grooming both the north and south sections of the Heritage Trail. The Empire to Dune Climb stretch is in great shape since it has been sheltered from the winds we’ve had.
Winter conditions have not been kind the ski hill at America’s Freshwater resort, The Homestead in Glen Arbor.
The opening date for Bay Mountain skiing has been delayed due to the weather, according to the Homestead website.
The Homestead appears to be considering opening for the first time this season Friday from noon to 7 p.m.
