A Leelanau County (Goon Gnebik) snow snake tournament, sponsored by the Raphael family and Mnamaadiziwin Inc., will be held on February 14 from noon to 4 p.m. The event, located at 8160 N. West Bay Shore Drive in Northport, is open to the public and offers both female and male categories and first, second, and third place metals.
Anishinaabe snow snake is a traditional winter sport played by sliding carved wooden sticks “snake” down a snow packed track and is a game of skill, strength and friendly competition.
Snow snakes will be available to use if you do not have one, and there will also be a warming tent with coffee/hot cocoa, s’mores, chili and frybread.
