Leelanau Coffee Roasting Co. (LCRC), a longtime fixture in Glen Arbor and across Leelanau County, entered a new chapter at the start of the year with a change in ownership.

The locally beloved coffee roaster sold at the start of the year to Tim Volkema, owner of Schuil Coffee, a Grand Rapids based company. The sale marks the end of more than three decades of ownership by founder Steve Arens.

Arens founded LCRC in May 1993. His brother, John Arens, joined the company about a year later, and together they built the company into a community staple known for small batch coffee, espresso drinks, and a cafe that has served generations of residents and visitors.
