LEELANAU HISTORY

5 YEARS AGO January 21, 2021

The Leelanau County Board of Commissioners remained split this week on whether to set any goals for itself for 2021. In a 4-3 vote that kept alive the possibility that the board might set goals for itself sometime this year, newly-elected District No. 1 Commissioner Rick Robbins, a Republican, this week sided with the board’s three Democrats on a motion to postpone discussion of District No. 7 Commissioner Melinda Lautner’s motion that the board as a whole not adopt any goals for 2021. *** Leland Township and the owner of the highest-assessed home in Michigan on Tuesday reached an out-of-court settlement reducing the property’s taxes to nearly one-third of their current levels. The ratio nearly mimics the contention made by lawyers for Celebrate Life Trust that the township used an arbitrary three-fold factor to determine a $24 million state equalized value (SEV) for the north Lake Leelanau home.
