This week it is all about the NCAA Football Championship. Quite a few people in the Omena area have ties to Indiana University, and IU’s amazing rise to the forefront of NCAA football has captured hearts and minds across America. Capping off their worst-to-first story, the Hoosiers won a very exciting final game to end the season with a 16-0 record. It is the first time since 1996 that a team won its first NCAA championship.
Omena residents David and Julie DeWitt and Brian and Sally Shapiro were in attendance at both the Rose Bowl, which was the Championship play-off game this year, and at this past Monday’s Championship game in Miami. Both couples live in Indianapolis, and three of them are IU alums. David graduated from IU, Sally has a degree from IU, and Brian earned all three of his degrees there.
They saw friends and neighbors from Indiana wherever they went. Wearing their IU logo-wear, they received cheers from strangers, even there in the hometown of the opposition team, the University of Miami. Julie’s Indy friend, Lisa Hayward, bought them both red and white striped yoga pants.
