The Glen Arbor Township Board moved through routine business at its January meeting before turning to a series of longer discussions ranging from farmers market parking to new town flower pots.
The board unanimously approved increasing its annual contribution to the Glen Lake Garden Club from $300 to $400 to help offset rising costs for maintaining the flower barrels downtown. The township has supported the program since 2012, alongside a matching contribution from the Glen Arbor Chamber of Commerce. The board also voted to replace the township’s 12 existing wooden flower barrels with used terracotta planters being sold by the Suttons Bay Garden Club.
“We’ve been using those (wooden barrels) for, I think, the last 10 years,” said Township Clerk Pam Laureto, and noted ongoing maintenance issues.
