Call the plumber, it’s a leak.
No, it’s not the result of frozen pipes. And will likely need more than a plumber (or a lawyer) to set things straight at the county government center.
During Tuesday’s regular monthly meeting, county commissioners expressed concern over the sharing of confidential information related to finance director Cathy Hartesvelt’s employment status.
She was placed on administrative leave Jan. 9, pending an investigation by county administrator Jim Dyer.
While Dyer refused to comment on the forced leave, details of the incident and investigation have surfaced — and not from unverified sources.
Two of the board’s seven commissioners have shared the details about the ongoing investigation. District 3 commissioner Will Bunek, in a memo to fellow commissioners and the other from District 5 commissioner Alan Campbell’s constituent newsletter, in which he shares the nitty-gritty details of the conflict between Hartesvelt and Dyer, possibly compromising the county's position if a lawsuit were to be filed.
This point was made by District 4 commissioner Ty Wessell at the meeting.
As a newspaper, we’re obviously wouldn’t want to curtail free speech. However, we also respect county employees and their privacy when it comes to their job status.
We get it. But, keep in mind, Dyer is a licensed attorney who previously worked in government administration.
This is not his first rodeo and probably isn't a person you want to pick a fight with.
