Lakers defeat Comets; set up contest with Buckley

Glen Lake sophomore Delanie Dembowske was no match in the paint to lead the Lakers with 16 points and six rebounds in a 42-23 win over Leland girls basketball Friday.
“Leland is going to give you 100%, and I was proud of our girls that we came to play,” Glen Lake coach Brad Fosmore said.
Leland played Glen Lake tough throughout the first half, only trailing 23-16, before the Lakers held the Comets to just seven points in the second half.
Glen Lake (8-4, 6-0 NWC) saw contributions from Lydia Fosmore with 13 points and Grace Noonan with nine points to seal the game.
“Everybody on our team contributed tonight in one way or another and that was huge,” Fosmore said.
Dembowske and Fosmore went 11-14 from the free-throw line.
The Comets were led by senior Ariah Amin with seven points, while Ruby Popp added six points.
Glen Lake will battle Buckley (8-1, 6-0 NWC) for first place in the Northwest Conference Wednesday, Jan. 28 at 7 p.m.
“(Buckley) is skilled in every position on the floor, so we know it's going to be a tough battle for us,” Fosmore said.
