After much anticipation from both students and parents alike, St. Mary Catholic School launched its first art club, open to grades K-5, on Jan. 22.
A large turnout, about 20 elementary kids, were present to participate in the club lesson and activities, led by Preschool Director Sheila Anderson and St. Mary school parent and preschool teacher, Elsa Bustos. Five more students are expected to attend the next monthly meeting in February, bringing the club up to its maximum capacity of 25 for the rest of the school year.
Syrena Bean, a St. Mary school parent who had three of her children, Rex, Bella, and Hazel, attend the first art club meeting, said they couldn’t wait to participate in the lesson and get into their art supplies with everyone. While St. Mary’s offers many extracurricular activities such as a chess and theater club and sports, other kids who’ve been wanting to lean into more art related projects can now explore these creative efforts with the new after school club in place.
