Comets defeat Portagers, Norse

Leland boys basketball hasn’t slowed down to begin the month of February, with two huge wins against Onekama and Suttons Bay over the past week.

The Comets won a stunner against Onekama 39-36 Tuesday as Leland senior Adrian Spencer and junior Chris Knudsen scored 11 points each. “I was extremely proud of the poise that our team showed in a very competitive game with Onekama that was back and forth all night. Onekama is traditionally a very difficult place to play. In a close game where every possession counted, we did a really good job of taking care of the basketball and handling their pressure defense,” Leland coach Ryan Knudsen said. “We were also able to execute on both sides of the court, with multiple players stepping up to make big shots or get defensive stops in big moments. Most importantly, we have learned some important lessons so far this season, and in this game, you were able to see us take some big steps forward, and I could not be more proud of their effort and resilience this season.”

Leland didn’t lead by much, but at the end of each quarter, the Comets were up by one to three points.
