Citizens hassled by ICE

To the editor:

Contrary to “Dismayed at ICE protests,” most people protesting ICE support the idea that convicted criminals in the US illegally should be deported. But that’s not the point. Protesters object to the cruelty of masked, poorly trained agents, violently rounding up dark-skinned individuals without a warrant. They also object to being assaulted and killed for exercising their constitutional right to peacefully protest.

But take the case of naturalized US citizen ChongLy Scott Thao who was dragged from home at gunpoint on Jan. 18th, in his underwear, in sub-freezing Minnesota weather because ICE agents were hunting a sex offender. CBS News reported later that the criminal ICE officials wanted was already in prison — since 2024, says Minnesota Department of Corrections. How did ICE not know this?
